Basic Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in engineering, a related field or the equivalent experience is required. Advanced degree is preferred. In addition, a minimum of 18 years of related experience is required, 10 years of Supervisory experience is preferred, 5 years minimum. The Director of Maritime and Strategic Systems Engineering requires a Secret Security clearance at the time of hire, preferably a Top Secret or TS/SCI with Polygraph. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required. Responsibilities for this Position General Dynamics Mission Systems is seeking a Director of Maritime and Strategic Systems Engineering. The location of this position will be based in Pittsfield, MA. The director will manage teams in numerous locations, including but not limited to Pittsfield, MA, Bangor, WA, Kings Bay, GA, Cambridge, MA, Cape Canaveral, FL, Dedham, MA. The position provides an opportunity to further advance some of our nation's fundamental defense services. GDMS employees work closely with esteemed clients to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to identify and help acquire new business ventures for GDMS and its customers. This position will be responsible for an approximately 1400 person multi-site engineering development team and for successful cost, schedule and risk management of projects across all of the GDMS Lines of Business. Key Responsibilities: Develops and leads the implementation of the engineering vision that drives Maritime and Strategic Systems engineering staff. Drives accountability and authority throughout the organization. Develops organizational policies and authorizes their implementation. Directs senior managers in various areas, groups, and/or operations. Establishes strategic plans and objectives. Ensures that budgets, schedules and performance standards are set and attained. Provides leadership in defining technology, tools and process strategy across a technical domain. Guides the focus of all activities in a technical domain. Directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering efforts within areas of responsibility. Oversees the selection, development and evaluation of personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the department. Ensures the appropriate handling of personnel issues within areas of responsibility including merit planning inputs, performance reviews and disciplinary actions. Leads specific process improvement activities. Expert leadership skills. Applies or develops highly advanced technologies, principles, theories and concepts. In-depth knowledge of the functional area, business strategies, and the company's goals. Highly skilled in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions, both written and oral. Understands and applies project leadership principles including SPI/CPI, Earned Value, Cost Account Management (CAM), and Statistical Process Controls for large complex programs. Interacts internally and externally with executive level management, requiring negotiation of extremely critical matters. Additional Requirements: Candidate must have demonstrated success leading engineering teams to capture and execute business in the Maritime and Strategic Systems domains.
