DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTION The criteria based position description consists PT I through PT VI. The position description will briefly define the position (PT I), indicate the qualifications required (PT II), identify the equipment/technology utilized (PT III), identify position#s working relationships (PT IV), and the position#s working environment (working conditions and physical requirements) (PT V). # Additionally, PT VI, Duties and Responsibilities, will identify those duties and responsibilities which are specific to this position. This portion of the criteria based job description will serve as the document to identify and evaluate each position#s specific duties and responsibilities. # POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.) Experience: One year experience in a busy physician office required. Experience in handling multiple telephone lines required. Excellent clerical/organizational skills required. Outstanding customer service skills required. Working knowledge of Windows based PC applications required. Knowledge of Department specific services preferred. Insurance knowledge and physician billing/charge entry experience strongly preferred. Education and Training: Two years of college or equivalent work experience preferred. High School diploma or equivalent required. Medical Terminology required. Typing (40 WPM) required. Microsoft Windows PC Applications Multiple line telephone system Meditech computer system Paging Systems Facsimile machine Photocopier Computerized scheduling License, Certification # Registration: N/A Other Requirements: Proven ability and experience dealing with agitated/dissatisfied patients, families and Physicians. Ability to work effectively and independently under pressure in a fast paced environment with minimal supervision. Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks throughtout the work day. Demonstrated competency in handling confidential and sensitive information. Excellent telephone skills required. Sensitive to diverse cultures and cultural differences. Demonstrated ability to read and follow written/verbal direction. Knowledge of community services. Flexible hours required; must be flexible to cover for vacations and earned time absences. Self motivated and ability to be independent and flexible within a team framework. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
