What will you be doing?

The Laboratory Technician III will support the transportation technologies business by performing standard testing and evaluation on a variety of products and for preparing technical reports. We're looking for someone with the ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out test instructions.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Setting up test apparatus
  • Operating and troubleshooting equipment including monitoring calibration and SPC
  • Maintaining equipment and facilities
  • Preparing test samples and obtaining and recording test data in accordance with standards
  • Perform a wide variety of more difficult and critical tests for special applications to include method development
  • Record data and write reports in standardized formats. Errors related to report writing should be at an absolute minimum
  • Participate in proofing of project reports.
  • May extract and compile engineering data
  • May prepare project files for compliance with operating procedures
  • Make recommendations regarding technical decisions relating to the interpretation and applicability of test standards
  • Communicate with clients and management regarding tests or improvements
  • Assist and instruct other laboratory technicians
  • Perform a wider variety of tests than Grade I and II to include non-standard tests
  • Have a broad understanding in specific areas or for specific tests developed through experience in performing the tests.
  • Prepare and participate in webinars, technical articles, or the equivalent, in support of marketing/management.
  • Performing other work as required

What qualifications do you need?

  • B.S. degree or High school diploma or GED plus six(s) of directly related lab experience or the equivalent in terms of education, experience and training
  • Understand software related to test equipment and ability to set up software methods related to tests with little or no assistance
  • Ability to identify report errors or inconsistencies in data should be beyond that of Level I and II
  • Ability to work well on your own with little supervision and work in cooperation with management
  • Ability to generate standardized reports based on newly instituted tests and write near error-free test reports
  • Ability to utilize basic shop equipment and various hand tools
  • Ability to review, understand, and convey technical information in an effective manner
  • Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions
  • Ability to deal with standardized or non-standardized situations that may include many variables
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills, in both verbal and written formats
  • Microsoft Office software expertise, including Word, Excel and Outlook
