Basic Qualifications





Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, computer science, or a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 10--years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of--8--years of relevant experience. Agile experience preferred.--Department of Defense SECRET--security clearance is REQUIRED--at time of hire. Active, transferrable, or ability--to obtain a TS/SCI clearance is highly preferred.--Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.







Responsibilities for this Position





General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Senior Staff Combat System Integration--Engineer in the Surface Ship Integration & Support (SSIS) Business Area to join our team of 1,300 people based in Pittsfield, MA. Our employees work closely with our customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.--The selected candidate will technically lead definition of our solutions and plans for Combat, Sensors and Weapons Systems integration in support of our ship integrator role. Our team works with the Navy and shipyard customer to design, build, and maintain surface combatant capability. As the technical lead, you will be instrumental in supporting the shipyard---s design and production activities to satisfy the interface, activation, and operational requirements of the ship---s combat systems. GDMS partners with the shipyards to meet the Navy---s affordability, schedule, crew workload and sustainment objectives.--This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation---s core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.--REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:Support business growth & strategy development and translate to engineering plans and requirementsDevelop affordable technical approachesLead resolution of technical--issues & risks on critical and high profile activitiesIncrease customer interaction presenting technically sound solutions, unsolicited ideas for system enhancements, and ensuring operational perspective is captured in solutionsMentor senior level and junior engineers to grow key skills required by the businessDevelop/deliver improved perception of technical leadership in the marketplace via the development of relationships with major program offices and through the promotion of our capabilities at conferencesSupport Engineering Objectives through ensuring high quality, mission capable products delivered on time and on budgetDrive a culture of innovation and operational improvementsPerforms requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis, system design, detail trade studies, systems integration and test (verification), validation and interface definition studies of system, subsystem or system elements with minimal supervision of the lead systems engineerPerforms technical planning, cost and risk analyses, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for subsystems and system elementsPerforms customer requirements analysis, develops system requirements and defines allocations to lower levels (subsystem, elements and components)Performs detailed technical analyses for a system, subsystem or system elementsDevelops and evaluates systems, networks and information systems to ensure designs meet applicable governmental security specificationsMay provide system accreditation/certification evaluation and test support to ensure all technical security features (e.g., identification, authentication, access control, labeling, and auditing) of the system are considered and function properlyMay develop system security documentation on both new and fielded information systemsContributes to detailed technical analyses at the system of system (SOS) levelSynthesizes solutions to meet customer expectations and technical performance while staying within schedule and cost constraints--Leads Modeling and Simulation activitiesResearches and analyzes data, such as vendor products, COTS components, GFE/CFE, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or applicationSupports the generation of technical engineering products by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycleResearches, designs, and develops systems, in conjunction with software and hardware product development, applying principles and techniques of systems engineering, modeling and simulation and analysisProvides leadership and/or direction to lower level employeesLeads technical tasks for small teams or projectsBegins to provide engineering support to proposalsParticipates in or leads SOW generation for subcontractsExercises latitude in determining technical objectives of assignmentsGuides the successful completion of major programs and projectsPlans and executes significant project tasks for activities described aboveCreative, innovative responsibilities requiring advanced decision-making skillsDefines processes for technical platforms, system specifications, input/output and working parameters for hardware and/or software compatibilityDesigns a complete and complex framework, system or productDetermines methods and procedures on new assignments and may coordinate activities of other personnel (Team Lead)Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining resultsHaving buy-in on concepts and ideasCreative thinkerAbility to multi-taskEffective in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actionsExcellent ability to clearly report information relevant to sound systems engineering designExcellent understanding of basic project leadership principles including SPI/CPI, Earned Value, Cost Account Management (CAM), and Statistical Process Controls--PREFERRED DEGREE TYPES AND EXPERIENCE:Senior Staff Combat System Integration Engineers are required to have demonstrated success on significant programs as project lead/program technical manager and/or as a program manager with excellent technical and people leadership strengths with proven business experience and ship design, integration and production.--Candidates also need to have the balanced technical background to be a decision maker on program technical issues, understand the business aspects and have the ability to be a strategic / competitive thinker exhibiting an exceptional degree of ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness.--Candidates--should have extensive experience and relationships with the US Navy Surface Ship construction and integration customers (primarily NAVSEA) and major industry partners. The candidate should be capable of demonstrating entrepreneurial thinking in support of developing innovative solutions and applications that can translate theory in to real world solutions that enable new missions for the defense and intelligence community.
