Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree. --CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:Department of Defense--Secret security clearance is--required at time of hire or processing to begin immediately upon acceptance. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
Responsibilities for this Position
General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Surface Ship Seaframe Control Systems Engineer. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation---s core defense/intelligence services and systems.-- General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.--REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:Participates in requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis, system design, trade studies, systems integration and test (verification), validation and interface definition studies of system elements direct supervisionResearches and analyzes data, such as vendor products, COTS components, GFE/CFE/BFE, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or applicationSupports the generation of technical engineering products by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycleDevelops and evaluates systems, networks and information systems to ensure designs meet applicable governmental security specificationsMay provide system accreditation/certification evaluation and test support to ensure all technical security features (e.g., identification, authentication, access control, labeling, and auditing) of the system are considered and function properlyMay develop system security documentation on both new and fielded information systemsPlans sub tasks for activities described aboveCreative, innovative responsibilities requiring advanced decision-making skillsDefines processes for technical platforms, system specifications, input/output and working parameters for hardware and/or software compatibilityDeveloping professional expertise, applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issuesExercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate actionIdentifies, analyzes and resolves system design weaknessesReceives instructions from immediate supervisorContact with multiple work groupsWorks under general supervisionContact with Deputy Program Managers Engineering (DPME) and other professionals within the Engineering departmentMay have some contact outside Engineering or with external customersTravel may be required (Approximately 20%)Security clearance requiredProvides resolution to problems of moderate scopeKeeps abreast of technology trendsKNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Familiarity with technical standardsSolid knowledge of systems engineering concepts, principles, and theoriesSolid awareness of business objective and Engineering role in achievingSolid knowledge of requirements management and system modeling toolsAbility to grasp and apply new information quickly and able to handle more complex assignmentsShows initiative on assignments, exercises independent judgment and professionally executes projects with little directionSolid proficiency in Microsoft Office applicationsSolid written and verbal communications skillsCreative thinkerAbility to multi-taskBuilds productive internal/external working relationships.Solid skills in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actionsAbility to clearly recognize and report relevant to sound systems engineering designPREFERRED DEGREE TYPES AND EXPERIENCE:Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.4+ Years of Experience in a related engineering field preferredPrior Department of Defense experienceExperience with Seaframe Control Systems (Engineering Control, Machinery Control, Damage Control, etc)Experience with Internal and External Change ProcessesExperience with Cable Block Diagrams, Wire Connection Lists, and other Drawing TypesExperience with Control SystemsExperience with Requirements Development and ManagementExperience with--Problem Report trackingExperience with IBM Rational tools such as DOORS and ChangeStrong technical writing skillsStrong presentation skillsStrong problem solving skillsStrong testing and troubleshooting skillsHigh level familiarity with other shipboard systems such as Navigation, Aviation, Infrastructure, etc.
