Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree. CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required. Responsibilities for this Position General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Deputy Shock Lead for the LCS Program. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS: The Senior Mechanical Engineer 1 will perform design, development and engineering change. The selected candidate will serve as Deputy Lead of the team that is responsible for shock qualification of Selected Ship Systems Equipment (SSSE) onboard LCS. Deliver innovative, flexible, integrated solutions to meet customer's changing business needs Support engineering design changes and Field Change Order (FCO) kits related to shock re-design activities. Attend shock tests as necessary at various government approved test laboratories. Interface with other internal LCS departments, our sub-contractors, the LCS prime contractor (Austal) and the Navy Technical Authority (NTA), especially with respect to MIL-S-901 shock qualification by extension, analysis and test. Leads problem-solving activities of small to medium scope. Reports status to IPT lead or program lead when required by the shock IPT lead. Approaches risk positively and proactively. Identifies and raises risks to IPT and supports the mitigation of them. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Candidates must demonstrate a passion for innovation, a sophisticated understanding of the need for formal engineering documentation of the design and the ability to effectively develop and evolve GDMS technology, process and documentation. The Senior Mechanical Engineer is expected to be fully proficient and able to perform all responsibilities associated with the position. The successful candidate should demonstrate initiative on assignments and be capable of professionally executing projects with little direction. Works more complex tasks with some level of supervision from the shock lead. Starts to manage conflict effectively by winning the cooperation, support and confidence of others through consistently trustworthy actions. The successful candidate shall demonstrate awareness of tasking responsibilities and has provided estimated efforts to IPT lead for planning. Holds self and others accountable for delivering quality products and services within budget and schedule. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate prior experience in the following areas: PTC ProEngineer Creo, AutoCAD, ANSYS FEA and Adobe Pro software, engineering change, engineering drawings and the ability to organize, plan, track and execute on multiple tasks. The successful candidate shall be able to demonstrate experience leading a 1-2 person team on a discrete task. PREFERRED DEGREE TYPES AND EXPERIENCE: The ideal candidate will have experience working closely with manufacturing to identify and provide solutions to design problems. This should include prior experience with producing or with altering formal engineering documentation of the design, problem report development and change request generation. Previous experience with PTC ProEngineer Creo, AutoCAD and Adobe Pro software is preferred. Previous experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (G.D.&T.) experience is a plus. Previous experience with fastener strength calculations by summing the moments using MathCAD software is also a plus. Previous experience with MIL-S-901D shock qualification by extension, analysis and test is preferred. Effective technical writing abilities to produce test procedures and test reports are also preferred. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working on a fast-paced Navy program, such as LCS or equivalent.
