Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience. CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is within 12 months of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required. Responsibilities for this Position General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Lead Module Design / Subsystem Design Electrical Engineer. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS: Responsible and accountable for the electrical technical planning, scheduling, cost analysis, risk analysis and successful execution of small to medium programs or major electrical subsystems of a larger program containing substantial electrical contentSubstantial contribution to electrical requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis (e.g. timing, power, etc.), interface analysis and definition for the design, integration and verification of electrical components, equipment and systems for major programs and projects containing substantial, complex electrical content Leads the requirements and functional allocation to electrical units, modules and components Plans and leads electrical engineering root cause analysis for complex electrical issues, conducts experimental tests, evaluates results to formulate and implement solutions to issues Substantial contribution to the generation and maintenance of electrical work products (i.e. plans, specifications, design documentation, etc.) used for internal consumption and/or deliverable to external customersDevelops and presents electrical requirements, concepts, designs, decisions and results to internal management, other organizations, team mates and external customersProvides substantial contributions to technical subcontract management that may include SOW development, proposal evaluation, source selection, technical oversight, and subcontractor work product evaluation and acceptanceLeads electrical reviews of electrical components, equipment and systemsEvaluates vendor capability to support product developmentApplies a strong understanding of the organizationally defined electrical processes throughout the lifecycle of the program or project Participation in the improvement of the electrical organizational processesSupports the generation of technical engineering products by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the electrical development life cycle Leads the research and analysis of data, such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or applicationSelects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliabilityLeads small technical proposals and contributes to proposalsMay serve as a proposal cost or technical volume managerMay supervise lower level employeesExercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignmentsGuides the successful completion of programs and projectsGenerally works with multiple work groups, including with senior levels of l work groupsGenerally works on diverse range of complex problems requiring ingenuity and creativity without appreciable directionGenerally has regular contact with project leaders and Program Managers and Senior Managers including external customers KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Strong use and understanding of electrical engineering concepts, principles, and theoriesFrequently contributes to the development of new theories and methodsStrong understanding of electrical engineering processesAware of business objective and Engineering role in achievingStrong proficiency in Microsoft Office applicationsStrong written and verbal communications skillsAbility to think creativelyAbility to multi-taskHighly skilled in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actionsAbility to recognize and clearly report information relevant to sound electrical engineering designUnderstands and applies basic project leadership principles including SPI/CPI, Earned Value, Cost Account Management (CAM), and Statistical Process ControlsDemonstrated ability to track scope growthTravel may be requiredSecurity clearance may be requiredGrasps and applies new information quicklyStrong ability to handle more complex problems Shows initiative on assignments, exercises strong independent judgment Key Responsibilities The Lead Module Design / Subsystem Design Electrical Engineer will be responsible for leading multiple member teams as well as being an individual contributor in the design, development and test of subsystem-level, backplane and VME module electrical designs at GDMS that are required to support our various customers' missions. Additional Responsibilities Lead electrical engineering design team in the development of Hardware Configuration Items and Subsystem Level electrical design Be the main point-of-contact with program leadership in regards to technical design, schedule, budget and quality for the electrical engineering design team for which he/she is leading Exercise creative thinking and ideation to advance our business performance. Deliver innovative, flexible, integrated solutions to meet customers' changing business needs. Support and engage in programs, projects and practices behind the GDMS culture and strategy, and comply with all policies and procedures. Follow industry and department trends and developments to ensure GDMS's services are consistent with, and/or superior to, industry best practices. Interface with vendors for product development Interface with other GDMS engineering disciplines Provide direction/support to Manufacturing as required Attend formal design reviews as both a Presenter and Reviewer Interface with the local Navy office Apply GDMS Common and Customer Processes Qualifications Candidate for this position must possess the following qualifications: Experience leading electrical engineering design teams in all aspects of design (e.g.; technical, schedule, budgetary and quality) Able to perform/lead FPGA design utilizing VHDL Familiarity with Vivado Able to perform/lead FPGA design simulation Experience with design of VME Modules Able to lead multi-functional teams Able to work multiple programs concurrently (multi-tasking) Knowledge of DOORS Strong Communications Skills Company Overview General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) engineers a diverse portfolio of high technology solutions, products and services that enable customers to successfully execute missions across all domains of operation.
